Microsoft is removing the Visual Studio Graphics Analyzer’s shader debugging feature, and it’s recommending users to switch to alternative graphics debuggers such as PIX for D3D12 or RenderDoc. Also, this preview removes the “bypassnro.cmd” script that many users used to bypass the internet and Microsoft account requirements during setup.

Aztarac is something of a holy grail in the world of arcade gaming, though at the time of it’s release it wasn’t very successful. Created by the short-lived studio, Centuri, and released in 1983. It plays a game that is a mix of Asteroids and Space Duel.

If you don’t do it correctly, you won’t survive the ride. You then have to input a code into a keypad (which players spent hours and hours cracking), and then you’ll get a bow that’s okay for stealth attacks at short range. That’s it.

These goofy New Years‘ Party Hats were lost to the sands of time when developer Jagex deliberately discontinued them back in 2001, never to return again. Coupled with the fact they can‘t be traded through the Grand Exchange, it makes procuring one incredibly difficult. Today, their price exceeds the max cash limit ability of the game engine itself. The rarest colored party hats like purple often run $1500+ on Ebay. And that‘s for an in-game cosmetic item! Their rarity and nostalgia produces that kind of insane secondary market value.

As an avid retro gamer and content creator focused on the hobby, I‘m fascinated by the incredibly rare, valuable, and history-making gaming items spanning rare consoles, impossible in-game drops, and decades-old limited edition cartridges and merch that hardly saw the light of day. The rarest things in video games as of 2023 are items like:

Remember that lone 1990 Gold World Championships NES cartridge produced for winner Thor Aackerlund? Well an additional 26 gold carts were produced as well and given to finalists of the gaming competition. These identical gold carts awarded to elite high scorers at the tournament feature the same grey & gold color scheme and contain the standards Super Mario Bros and Tetris demo mashup software. At an auction in early 2019, one sealed gold NWC cart sold for $100,150 thanks to the miniscule print run of just 26 copies on Earth.

Fresh game updates for 2025

From our review: Ninja Gaiden 2 Black is neither Ninja Gaiden 2 nor Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2, but instead a secret third thing that mixes both versions together to create something that is wholly unique and by far the most beautiful version of this excellent action game yet. While I have a hard time calling it the definitive release because I prefer the original’s “more dudes who are more aggressive but die faster” approach, Ninja Gaiden 2 Black is a definite improvement over the Sigma 2 release, fixes several long-standing issues, and unlike the original, isn’t trapped on the Xbox 360. It isn’t the version I was hoping for (get on it, modders), but it is still an incredible game and I’m happy it exists. If this really is it for Ninja Gaiden 2, it will at least go out on a high note. This trip through time reminded me that while you can’t go home again, and nothing will ever truly be like it was, that doesn’t mean something can’t still be beautiful. Ninja Gaiden 2 is remarkable, even with its flaws, and it’s good to finally have it back in Black. – Will Borger

Despite GTA VI moving into next year, 2025 is a stellar year for new games. It’s already seen the release of AAA juggernauts like Monster Hunter Wilds and Assassin’s Creed Shadows alongside standout indies like Blue Prince and The Midnight Walk, with much more to come, including Nintendo’s Switch 2 launch lineup.

Not only are we getting a new Doom game in May, but we’ll also be seeing the next chapter in the Elden Ring universe as well. Looking further ahead, there’s also plenty of exciting new games for the rest of the year, with the likes of Borderlands 4, and the release of Nintendo’s new Switch 2 console (and a slew of upcoming Switch 2 games), even if GTA 6 has moved to 2026. So yeah, keeping up with all the latest gaming news is no easy task. But that’s where we come in. We’re here to help you keep track of all the upcoming Xbox Series X games, upcoming PS5 games, upcoming PC games, and upcoming Switch games in the pipeline.

From our review: Commandos: Origins strikes a great balance between the classic stealth tactics games and modern streamlined ideas, creating tons of potential for finding creative solutions to problems like “too many living fascists.” Pruning out elements like inventory management may not be to every older fan’s tastes, but that’s focused a spotlight on strict stealth – and it’s here Origins shines. Sneaking through its massive maps, each of which are swarming with hundreds of enemies, takes hours and hours of patient planning and careful clicking. I regularly gleaned a ton of pleasure from executing a perfect coordinated strike and fading away into the background, with the remaining Nazis none the wiser. No plan survives contact with this many bugs, but quick-loading will get you past nearly any issue and this otherwise might be the sneakiest fun you can have going commando with your underwear on. – Luke Reilly

The first installment in the long-running series since 2012, this upcoming game is called simply Fable and, for several years since its announcement in 2020, details about it have been scant. Former entries in the action role-playing series were all about player choice, and the gameplay trailer that finally debuted in 2024 emphasized that as well, with a description that reads, “What does it mean to be a Hero? Well, in the fairytale land of Albion, that is entirely up to you.” This game is nominally coming out in 2025, so here’s hoping we’ll hear more about what those choices might be. —Maddy Myers
